Many of us feel a hunger for something more in our lives, something we can’t quite name or touch, something we sometimes refer to as “God.” How we think about God influences how we think about ourselves, and what we think about ourselves powerfully shapes how we see and understand God. But where does our “understanding” of God come from—within or without?
Come away for a night and a day to sit with these questions and see what possibilities for new life and new faith emerge in you. With Teresa of Avila, Clare of Assisi and John Calvin as our traveling companions we will spend time alone and together, in silence and in holy conversation, exploring the deep connections between ourselves, each other, and God.
This retreat is open to all, and particularly suited to those just beginning their spiritual journey or wishing to begin again.
Please plan to arrive between 3-5 pm on Friday to allow time to unpack before our prompt start at 6 pm. You may wish to bring your Bible and a journal. Wear sturdy shoes and layers of clothing, suited to mountain temperatures.
Preacher, Teacher and Spiritual Friend, the Rev. William “Dawg” Strong, leads this Retreat. He holds an M.Div from Union Presbyterian Seminary, a certificate in short term crisis counseling from VCU Department of Patient Counseling, is a graduate of Richmond Hill’s RUAH School of Spiritual Guidance, the Benedictine Center at St. Paul’s Monastery School of Lectio Divina, and Mepkin Abbey’s Monastic Institute.
